THE ADVENT TRUTH
“Sabbath vs. Jesus—who is the winner?” But that’s a false dilemma. It’s not a battle between the two. In fact, Jesus is the Creator of the Sabbath. The Sabbath wasn’t created by man, nor was it established as a burden or a competition against Jesus. According to John 1:1-3 and Colossians 1:16, Jesus is the Creator of all things. That includes the Sabbath, as we see in Genesis 2:2-3. When God finished His work on the sixth day, He rested—setting aside the seventh day as holy. This is the same Jesus who made that day special for humanity, calling it a gift, not a burden.

In Mark 2:27-28, Jesus says, “The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. Therefore, the Son of Man is also Lord of the Sabbath.” Jesus is Lord of the Sabbath. He’s not a competitor to the Sabbath, He is the Lord who created it. Jesus doesn’t ask us to choose between Him and His law—He invites us to follow Him in honoring His commandments. In Matthew 5:17-19, Jesus affirms He didn’t come to destroy the law but to fulfill it. He kept the Sabbath Himself, as we see in Luke 4:16, where He entered the synagogue on the Sabbath day and taught.

So, the real issue isn’t “Sabbath vs. Jesus”—it’s about obedience vs. rebellion. When Jesus is Lord, we honor His Word, which includes keeping the Sabbath holy. Jesus didn’t come to change the law but to show us how to keep it in its true spirit. The question isn’t whether Jesus competes with the Sabbath; it’s whether we will follow Him in obedience.

If you’re going to claim Jesus as your Lord, it means honoring His commandments—not choosing parts of them to ignore. Sabbath observance is a reflection of your relationship with Jesus. When you follow Him, you honor the Sabbath He made, and it becomes a day of joy and peace.

The choice is clear—Jesus is the Lord of the Sabbath. Let’s stop separating Him from His law and start living in full obedience to all He commands.
