There was a time when the United States stood as a refuge for those escaping religious tyranny. Founded on the principles of civil and religious liberty, it became a haven where conscience could be free. But the Bible warns that in the final crisis, this nation will undergo a terrifying transformation. Revelation 13 doesn’t leave us guessing—it says plainly that a second beast rises from the earth (Rev. 13:11), and unlike the oppressive powers before it, this one begins “like a lamb”—Christ-like, gentle, freedom-loving. But it will speak as a dragon. That means this nation, while claiming to uphold freedom, will one day speak with satanic authority—through oppressive laws and persecution.
Revelation 13:12 says this nation will exercise all the power of the first beast before it—meaning it will resurrect a system of church and state union, just like the papal tyranny of the Dark Ages. It will “cause the earth”—that means enforce—false worship. How? Verse 16 tells us: by enforcing the mark of the beast. Bible prophecy reveals the mark will be a counterfeit system of worship enforced by legislation. America will lead the world in compelling religious worship by law—Sunday laws—and then export that agenda globally.
