John 3:13-21 3:16 In Detail TESB

John 3:13-21 No one has ascended into heaven except the one who descended from heaven--the Son of Man.

"Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up,

so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.

For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.

For God did not send Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

Anyone who believes in him is not condemned, but anyone who does not believe is already condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the one and only Son of God.

This is the judgement: The light has come into the world, and people loved darkness rather than the light because their deeds were evil.

For everyone who does evil hates the light and avoids it, so that his deeds may not be exposed.

But anyone who lives by the truth comes to the light, so that his works may be shown to be accomplished by God."

Ephesians 4:7-10 Now grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ's gift.

For it says: When he ascended on high, he took the captives captive; he gave gifts to people.

But what does "he ascended" mean except that he also descended to the lower parts of the earth?

The one who descended is also the one who ascended far above all the heavens, to fill all things.

The one from Heaven

John 3:31-36 The one who comes from above is above all. The one who is from the earth is earthly and speaks in earthly terms. The one who comes from heaven is above all.

He testifies to what he has seen and heard, and yet no one accepts his testimony.

The one who has accepted his testimony has affirmed that God is true.

For the one whom God sent speaks God's words, since he gives the Spirit without measure.

The Father loves the Son and has given all things into his hands.

The one who believes in the Son has eternal life, but one who rejects the Son will not see life; instead, the wrath of God remains on him.

John 6:47 Truly I tell you, anyone who believes has eternal life.

Knowing God Through Love

1 John 4:7-11 Dear friends, let us love one another, because love is from God, and everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.

The one who does not love does not know God, because God is love.

God's love was revealed among us in this way: God sent his one and only Son into the world so that we might live through him.

Love consists in this: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins.

Dear friends, if God loved us in the way, we also must love one another.

The Journey to Jerusalem

Luke 9:51-56 When the days were coming to a close for him to be taken up, he determined to journey Jerusalem.

He sent messengers ahead of himself, and on the way they entered a village of the Samaritans to make preparations for him.

But they did not welcome him, because determined to journey to Jerusalem.

When the disciples James and John saw this, they said "Lord, do you want us to call down fire from heaven to consume them?"

But he turned and rebuked them,

and they went to another village.

Life and Judgement

John 5:24-25 "Truly I tell you, anyone who hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not come under judgement but has passed from death to life.

"Truly I tell you, an hour is coming and is now here, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live.
