Proverbs 25:11-12 An idea well-expressed is like a design of gold, set in silver
A warning given by an experienced person to someone willing to listen is more valuable than gold rings or jewelry made of the finest gold.
Isaiah 2:20-21 When that day comes, they will throw away the gold and silver idols they have made, and abandon them to the moles and the bats.
When the Lord comes to shake the earth, people will hide in the holes and caves in the rocky hills to try to escape from his anger and to hide from his power and glory.
Jonah 1:5 The sailors were terrified and cried out for help, each one to his own god. Then, in order to lessen the danger, they threw the cargo overboard. Meanwhile, Jonah had gone below and was lying in the ship's hold, sound asleep.
Amos 5:12-17 I know how terrible your sins are and how many crimes you have committed, you persecute good people, take bribes, and prevent the poor from getting justice in the courts.
And so, keeping quiet in such evil times is the smart thing to do!
Make it your aim to do what is right, not what is evil, so that you may live. Then the Lord God Almighty really will be with you, as you claim he is.
Hate what is evil, love what is right, and see that justice prevails in the courts. Perhaps the Lord will be merciful to the people of this nation who are still left alive.
And so the Sovereign Lord Almighty says, "There will be wailing and cries of sorrow in the city streets. Even farmers will be called to morn the dead along with those who are paid to mourn.
There will be wailing in all the vineyards. All this will take place because I am coming to punish you." The LORD has spoken.
The People's Insincere Repentance
Hosea 6:1 The people say, " Let's return to the Lord! He has hurt us, but he will be sure to heal us; he has wounded us, but he will bandage our wounds, won't he?
Joel 2:15-17 Blow the trumpet on Mount Zion; give orders for a fast and call an assembly!
Gather the people together; prepare them for a sacred meeting; bring the old people, gather the children and babies too. Even newly married couples must leave their homes and come.
The priests, serving the Lord between the altar and the entrance of the Temple, must weep and pray. "Have pity on your people, Lord. Do not let other nations despise us and mock us by saying "Where is your God?"
