Matthew 17:10-13 “Why do the teachers of the Law say that Elijah has to come first?” GNB

Matthew 17:10-13 Then the disciples asked Jesus,

Question in the Bible

“Why do the teachers of the Law say that Elijah has to come first?”

Answer in the Bible

“Elijah is indeed coming first,” answered Jesus, “and he will get everything ready.

But I tell you that Elijah has already come and people did not recognize him, but treated him just as they pleased. In the same way they will also ill-treat the Son of Man.”

Then the disciples understood that he was talking to them about John the Baptist.

Malachi 4:5-6 “But before the great and terrible day of the LORD comes, I will send you the prophet Elijah.

He will bring fathers and children together again; otherwise I would have to come and destroy your country.”

Matthew 11:11-15 I assure you that John the Baptist is greater than anyone who has ever lived. But the one who is least in the Kingdom of heaven is greater than John.

From the time John preached his message until this very day the Kingdom of heaven has suffered violent attacks, and violent men try to seize it.

Until the time of John all the prophets and the Law of Moses spoke about the Kingdom;

and if you are willing to believe their message, John is Elijah, whose coming was predicted.

Listen, then, if you have ears!
