Ephesians 4:1-10 NLT
Unity in the Body
Ephesians 4:1-10 Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg your to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God.
Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other's faults because of your love.
Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace.
For there is one body and one Spirit, just as you have been called to one glorious hope for the future.
There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism,
one God and Father of all, who is over all, in all, and living through all.
However, he has given each one of us a special gift through the generosity of Christ.
That is why Scriptures say, "When he ascended to the heights, he led a crowd of captives and gave gifts to his people"
Notice that it says "he ascended." This clearly means that Christ also descended to our lowly world.*
And the same one who descended is the one who ascended higher than all the heavens, so that he might fill the entire universe with himself.
1 Thessalonians 2:9-16 Don't you remember, dear brothers and sisters, how hard we worked among you? Night and day we toiled to earn a living so that we would not be a burden to any of you as we preached God's Good News to you.
You yourself are our witnesses --and so is God--that we were devout and honest and faultless toward all of you believers.
And you know that we treated each of you as a father treats his own children.
We pleaded with you, encouraged you, and urged you to live your lives in a way that God would consider worthy. For he called you to share in his Kingdom and glory.
Therefore, we never stop thanking God that when you received his message from us, you didn't think of our words as mere human ideas. You accepted what we said as the very word of God--which, of course, it is. And this word continues to work in you who believe.
And then, dear brothers and sisters, you suffered persecution from you own countrymen. In this way, you imitated the believers in God's churches in Judea who, because of their belief in Christ Jesus, suffered from their own people, the Jews.
For some of the Jews killed the prophets, and some even killed the Lord Jesus. Now they have persecuted us, too. They fail to please God and work against all humanity
as they try to keep us from preaching the Good News of salvation to the Gentiles. By doing this, they continue to pile up their sins. But the anger of God has caught up with them at last.
Romans 12:4-8 Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function,
so it is with Christ's body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other.
In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you.
If you gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well.
If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly.
1 Corinthians 10:17 And though we are many, we are all eat from the one loaf of bread, showing that we are one body.
