Psalm 119:137-176 Part of 4 of 4 GNT
The Law of the Lord
Psalm 19:7-14 The law of the Lord is perfect; it gives new strength. The commands of the Lord are trustworthy, giving wisdom to those who lack it.
The laws of the Lord are right, and those who obey them are happy. The commands of the Lord are just and give understanding to the mind.
Reverence for the Lord is good; it will continue forever, The judgments of the Lord are just; they are always fair.
They are more desirable than the finest gold; they are sweeter than the purest honey.
They give knowledge to me, your servant; I am rewarded for obeying them.
None of us can see our own errors; deliver me, LORD, from hidden faults!
Keep me safe, also, from willful sins; don't let them rule over me. Then I shall be perfect and free from the evil of sin.
May my words and my thoughts be acceptable to you, O LORD, my refuge and my redeemer!
Advice to the Young
Proverbs 3:1-2 My child, don't forget what I teach you. Always remember what I tell you to do.
My teaching will give you a long and prosperous life.
A Good Land to Be Possessed
Deuteronomy 8:1-2 "Obey faithfully all the laws that I have given you today, so that you may live, increase in number, and occupy the land that the Lord promised to your ancestors.
Remember how the Lord your God led you on this long journey through the desert these past forty years, sending hardships to test you, so that he might know what you intended to do and whether you would obey his commands.
Isaiah 53:1-6 The people reply, "Who would have believed what we now report? Who could have seen the Lord's hand in this?"
It was the will of the Lord that his servant grow like a plant taking root in dry ground. He had no dignity or beauty to make us take notice of him. There was nothing attractive about him, nothing that would draw us to him.
We despised him and rejected him; he endured suffering and pain. No one would even look at him--we ignored him as if he were nothing.
"But he endured the suffering that should have been ours, the pain that we should have borne. All the while we thought that his suffering was punishment sent by God.
But because of our sins he was wounded, beaten because of the evil we did. We are healed by the punishment he suffered, made whole by the blows he received.
All of us were like sheep that were lost, each of us going his own way. But the Lord made the punishment fall on him, the punishment all of us deserved.
Luke 21:32-36 "Remember that all these things will take place before the people now living have all died.
Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.
The Need to Watch
"Be careful not to let yourselves become occupied with too much feasting and drinking and with the worries of this life, or that Day may suddenly catch you
like a trap. For it will come upon all people everywhere on earth.
Be on watch and pray always that you will have the strengths to go safely through all those things that will happen and to stand before the Son of Man."
