Preachers like Wesley & Whitefield preached the gospel with such conviction power, unlike their contemporaries of their day serving out pablum to their dead congregations. Also, Wesley & Whitefield faced great opposition and persecution. They had rotten eggs, stones and dead cats thrown at them. Whitefield had a stone hit his forehead one time and left a scar for the rest of his life. Wesley was punched in the mouth with such force blood gushed out. Jealous ministers closed doors on them and tried to ruin their names, but they preached on.
