Good morning to everyone. Grace and peace be with you.
I was determined to be in my she shed yesterday. My husband had even plowed me a path back there to make sure I could get there. He plowed it on Wednesday. Yesterday, I took the dog out and had decided that I would leave her out in her pen for a couple of hours to play and burn off some energy. That would give me time to spend in my quiet place. Undisturbed.
We get to her pen. I clear the gate of snow and make sure the door will close and fasten. We are inside the pen when I unclip the lead and wouldn’t you know it; she found that the gap (small gap) in the gate was just enough to take off. Now, it did not take long for us to corral her again, but trudging through the foot and half of drifts was exhausting. I get her back to the pen, BUT this time make sure the gate was completely closed. She bounced like Tigger in her pen.
Next assignment was to get my toys and head to the shed. Loaded and ready to go, my husband gave me a quick reminder (to make himself feel better) about 4-high. NO problem, I got this. Then halfway down the lane, the drifts were deeper and I did not have enough momentum. Stuck. Rock and roll for a couple of minutes in 4 low … no dice. I am stuck. I start laughing because my boss was going to give a service talk about ‘impassable’ roads and here I am … ha ha. So naturally I sent a few pictures.
Fast forward … I get the shed open and the generator started. The little heater is warming up, and I find a cozy spot in my chair a blanket. Words were not coming to me to write, but I had the urge to read my first book. As I am settled in my chair and starting to read, I can hear the boys outside getting the truck out. As they are working, I can hear the generator stop working. I laughed. Someone did not want me in the shed. The boys get the truck out; I restart the generator and get nestled into my chair. The generator stops again. I am bundled and comfortable. I did not want to leave my quiet place … unfortunately, it was just too cold to stay out there. I had to retreat to my secondary quiet place. A bedroom upstairs.
Something happened yesterday that I do not believe has ever happened … I read a book from cover to cover in one sitting. Yes, it was my book, and I had a purpose for doing so, but I do not like to read. Haha. I got to relive the moments in the book. Reconnect with feelings I have embraced in a long time. I am not quite sure why I had to be in the house instead of the shed, but that happened to be the circumstance.
On my day off, God provided me with entertainment (my dog taking a run through snow drifts) and me getting stuck 25 yards from my shed. He provided me with beauty to embrace, if even only for a short time. He gave me quiet and comfort as I embraced His challenge to relive a moment in my past. He provided insight on how to republish. He gave me focus to get a few household chores done. He gave me rest.
Yesterday was my day off from work. Many times we overload our days off to accomplish those tasks that we could not get done during our work week. Though I did do a few chores, it was routine items that needed to be done to maintain the house … nothing extra. I took that day yesterday, and I relaxed and gave my body a chance to just NOT. It was wonderful.
I encourage you to take a day and do nothing. To do as little as possible and give your body a chance to recover. Especially in the snowy lands that we have right now. Merely walking the dog can be overpowering because they want to play and you want to go in. One way that I believe I do not succumb to the seasonal illnesses is that I do take days like yesterday and I do take time to recover. Do not wear yourself out so much that it takes you (days) to recover because you are forced to comply with the need for rest.
Be blessed today my friends.
