THREE ANGELS BROADCASTING NETWORK DEVOTIONAL
In My Heart There Rings a Melody

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6–7

It was nap time, but as a four-year-old, I didn’t want to sleep. Restless and struggling, I fought against sleep while Mama lay beside me. My eyelids were getting heavy when I realized I could hear music—but not from any device or person. That music was running through my thoughts!

I told my Mama I didn’t want to hear the music, and she told me that it was okay to just listen to it. However, when I told her I didn’t want to hear that particular song, she suggested I think of another one.

As a senior citizen, I wake up in the middle of the night and just pray to go back to sleep. But what runs through my thoughts that keeps me awake? Bills that need to be paid, errands that need to be run, pills that need to be remembered and taken—and so many others thoughts that keep whirling in my mind and preventing sleep.

Sometimes, when I can’t fall back to sleep, I try counting forwards—and then backwards. I even recite the alphabet! But at other times, I hear music again. If it’s too lively, I try to think of soothing songs that will help me to drift back to sleep.

During one recent middle-of-the-night episode, I suddenly realized that uplifting words were running through my thoughts. Over and over, they kept coming in a steady stream. How I wanted to remember the name of that song!

At first, the title just wouldn’t come … until, suddenly, there it was: Praise Him! Praise Him!

]Oh, thank you, Lord! Yes, when I can’t get back to sleep, when troubling thoughts fill my mind, and when those lonely times are heavy like a black cloud, I should praise You!

As I thanked the Lord for that reminder, sleep seemed near. But then, another song began playing in my mind, and I smiled when I realized that He’d brought to mind the song, Through It All.

Yes, God was telling me that no matter what was happening in my life—no matter if it was day or night—I should and could still praise Him through it all!

Dear friend, let this be your reminder that you can depend on Him, too. He is there when we think upon the good things and place ourselves in His Care.
