THE ADVENT TRUTH
If the righteous go straight to heaven when they die… then why does the Bible keep saying the dead are asleep, waiting for the resurrection? The idea that people float to heaven the moment they die doesn’t come from Scripture—it comes from pagan philosophy that crept into Christianity through tradition. But God is not the author of confusion (1 Corinthians 14:33). He has spoken plainly.

The Bible teaches over 50 times that the dead are asleep.

Jesus said it Himself:
“Our friend Lazarus sleepeth… Lazarus is dead” (John 11:11–14 KJV). If death meant going to heaven, why did Jesus compare it to sleep? Why would He resurrect Lazarus back to a sinful world if Lazarus had already been rejoicing in heaven?

The Bible says the dead know nothing now:
“For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing” (Ecclesiastes 9:5 KJV).
“His breath goeth forth… in that very day his thoughts perish” (Psalm 146:4 KJV).

No one has ascended yet except Christ:
Jesus declared, “No man hath ascended up to heaven but He that came down from heaven” (John 3:13 KJV). That means Abraham isn’t in heaven yet. David isn’t in heaven yet. Peter preached it himself: “David is not ascended into the heavens” (Acts 2:34 KJV).

The righteous receive their reward at the Second Coming, not at death:
“For the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven… and the dead in Christ shall rise first” (1 Thessalonians 4:16 KJV).
“Behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me” (Revelation 22:12 KJV). If the righteous already got their reward at death, why is Jesus bringing it with Him when He returns?

Death is not the gateway to heaven—it is a peaceful sleep until resurrection morning. This truth protects people from spiritual deception. If the dead are asleep, then who are people really talking to in séances, witchcraft, ancestor worship, or Marian apparitions? Not the dead—but familiar spirits (Leviticus 19:31). Satan uses the lie of the immortal soul to deceive the world (Revelation 16:14).
