Always Grateful
When the pressures of life seem overwhelming - your personal relationships are dysfunctional, your health is declining, your debt-to-income ratio is out of whack, or any other crisis you might be facing - be grateful and give thanks! Yes, you heard that right. Give thanks! Even in the midst of your biggest trial, there is much to praise Jesus for. Be grateful that you serve a great big God to whom you can give your worries and fears, for the loyal friends that you do have, for the fact that you're breathing in spite of having poor health, and for a God that provides for your every need even if your bank account is dangerously low! If you open your eyes in the midst of your pain, and you don’t see God’s mercy, it could be that you are just not spending enough time in His presence. His blessings are there even if you can’t see them through your tears. People often complain about what they “don’t” have instead of being grateful for what they “do” have. Whenever you are tempted to wallow in a muddy pond of self-pity, stop and thank God for your blessings AND your trials! In other words, don’t blame God, trust God! Remember that prayer plus thanksgiving equals peace, so in all things, praise God. Claim His promise in Isaiah 58:11, “The LORD will guide you continually, and satisfy your needs in parched places, and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters never fail.” The Bible is filled with commands to be thankful. Ephesians 5:20 tells us to be “giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” And in Psalm 107:1: “Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!” God expects us to maintain an attitude of thanksgiving - not because God is an unreasonable tyrant, but because when you reflect on the faithful and loving character of God, your heart will be filled with love, gratitude, and His sweet peace. So in all situations, trust God . . . and be always grateful! Text: Colossians 2:6-7, 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, Psalm 100:4-5, Philippians 4:6-7
