Ecclesiastes 5:1-7 RSV
Ecclesiastes 5:1-7 Guard your steps when you go to the house of God; to draw near to listen is better than to offer sacrifice of fools; for they do not know that they are doing evil.
Be not rash with your mouth, nor let your heart be hasty to utter a word before God, for God is in heaven, and you upon earth; therefore let your words be few.
For a dream comes with much business, and a fool's voice with many words.
When you vow a vow to God, do not delay paying it; for he has pleasure in fools. Pay what you vow.
It is better that you should not vow then that you should vow and not pay.
Let not your mouth led you into sin, ands do not say before before the messenger that it was a mistake; why should God be angry at your voice, and destroy the work of your hands?
For when dreams increase, empty words grow many; but do you fear God.
Exodus 3:1-6 Now Moses was keeping the flock of his father-in-law, Jeth' ro, the priest of Mid'i-an; and he led his flock to the west side of the wilderness, and came to Ho' reb, the mountain of God.
And the angel of the LORD appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush; and he looked, and lo, the bush was burning, yet it was not consumed.
And Moses said, "I will turn aside and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt."
When the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called to him out of the bush, "Moses, Moses!" And he said, "Here I am."
Then he said, "Do not come near; put off your shoes from your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground."
And he said, "I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob." And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look at God.
1 Samuel 15:17-23 And Samuel said, "Though you are little in your own eyes, are you not the head of the tribes of Israel? The LORD anointed you king over Israel,
And the LORD sent you on a mission, and said, 'Go, utterly destroy the sinners, the A-mal'e-kites, and fight against them until they are consumed.'
Why then did you not obey the voice of the LORD? Why did you swoop on the spoil, and do what was evil in the sight of the LORD?"
And Saul said to Samuel, "I have obeyed the voice of the LORD, I have gone on the mission on which the LORD sent me, I have brought A'gag the king of Am'a-lek, and I have utterly destroyed the A-mal'e-kites.
But the people took of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the best of the things devoted to destruction, to sacrifice to the LORD your God in Gil'-gal."
And Samuel said, "Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken that the fat of rams.
For rebellion is as the sin of divination, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry, Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, he has also rejected you from being king."
Proverbs 20:24-25 A man's steps are ordered by the LORD; how then can man understand his way?
It is a snare from a man to say rashly, "it is holy," and to reflect only after making his vows.
Proverbs 10:18-22 He who conceals hatred has lying lips, and he who utters slander is a fool.
When words are many, transgression is not lacking, but he who restrains his lips is prudent.
The tongue of the righteous is choice silver; the mind of the wicked is of little worth.
The lips of the righteous feed many, but fools die for lack of sense.
The blessing of the LORD makes rich, and he adds no sorrow with it.
