Ecclesiastes 5:1-7 RSV
Acts 5:1-11 But a man named An-a-ni' as with his wife Sap-phi'ra sold a piece of property.
and with his wife's knowledge he kept back some of the proceeds, and brought only a part and laid it at the apostles' feet.
But Peter said, "An-a-ni' as, why has Satan filed your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back part of the proceeds of the land?
While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not at your disposal? How is it that you have conceived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God."
When An-a-ni' as heard these words, he fell down and died. And great fear came upon all who heard of it.
The young men rose and wrapped him up and carried him out and buried him.
After an interval of about three hours his wife came in, not knowing what had happened.
And Peter said to her, "Tell me whether you sold the land for so much." And she said, "Yes, for so much."
But Peter said to her, "How is it that you have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? Hark, the feet of those that have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out."
Immediately she fell down at his feet and died. When the young men came in and they found her dead, and they carried her out and buried her beside her husband.
And great fear came upon the whole church, and upon all who heard of these things.
Proverbs 6:1-5 My son, if you have become surety for your neighbor, have given your pledge for a stranger;
if you are snared in the utterance of your lips, caught in the words of your mouth;
then do this, my son, and save yourself, for you have come into your neighbor's power; go, hasten, and importune your neighbor.
Give your eyes no sleep and your eyelids no slumber;
save yourself like a gazelle from the hunter, like a bird from the hand of the fowler.
1 Corinthians 11:7-16 For a man ought not to cover his head, since h is the image and glory of God; but woman is the glory of man
(For man was not made from woman, but woman from man.
Neither was man created for woman, but woman for man.)
That is why a woman ought to have a veil on her head, because of the angels.
(Nevertheless, in the Lord woman is not independent of man nor man of woman;
for as woman was made for man, so man is now born of woman. And all things are from God.)
Judge for yourselves; is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered?
Does not nature itself teach you tat for a man to wear long hair is degrading to him,
but if a woman has long hair, is it her pride? For her hair is given to her for a covering.
If any one is disposed to be contentious, we recognize no other practice, nor do the churches of God.
Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 The end of the matter; all has been heard, Fear God, and keep his commandments; for this is the whole duty of man.
For God will bring every deed into judgement, with every secret thing, whether good or evil.
