Ecclesiastes 5:1-7 GNT
Don't Make Rash Promises
Ecclesiastes 5:1-7 Be careful about going to the Temple. It is better to go there to learn than to offer sacrifices like foolish people who don't know right from wrong.
Think before you speak, and don't make any rash promises to God. He is in heaven and you are on earth, so don't say any more than you have to.
The more you worry, the more likely you are to have bad dreams, and the more you talk, the more likely you are to say something foolish.
So when you make a promise to God, keep it as quickly as possible. He has no use for a fool. Do what you promise to do.
Better not to promise at all then to make a promise and not keep it.
Don't let your own words lead you to sin, so that you have to tell God's priest that you didn't mean it. Why make God angry with you? Why let him destroy what you have worked for?
No matter how much you dream, how much useless work you do, or how much you talk, you must still stand in awe of God.
God Calls Moses
Exodus 3:1-6 One day while Moses was taking care of the sheep and goats of his father-in-law Jethro, the priest of Midian, he led the flock across the desert and came to Sinai, the holy mountain.
There the angel of the LORD appeared to him as a flame coming from the middle of a bush. Moses saw that the bush was on fire but that it was not burning up.
"This is strange," he thought. "Why isn't the bush burning up? I will go closer and see."
When the LORD saw that Moses was coming closer, he called to him from the middle of the bush and said, "Moses! Moses!" He answered, "Yes, here I am."
God said, "Do not come any closer. Take off your sandals, because you are standing on holy ground.
I am the God of your ancestors, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob." So Moses covered his face, because he was afraid to look at God.
1 Samuel 15:17-23 Samuel answered, "Even though you consider yourself of no importance, you are the leader of the tribes of Israel. The LORD anointed you king of Israel,
and he sent you out with orders to destroy those wicked people of Amalek. He told you to fight until you had killed them all.
Why, then, did you not obey him? Why did you rush to grab the loot, and so do what displeases the LORD?"
"I did obey the LORD," Saul replied. "I went out as he told me to, brought back King Agag, and killed all the Amalekites.
But my men did not kill the best sheep and cattle that they captured; instead, they brought them here to Gilgal to offer as a sacrifice to the LORD your God."
Samuel said, "Which does the LORD prefer; obedience or offerings and sacrifices? It is better to obey him than to sacrifice the best sheep to him.
Rebellion against him is as bad as witchcraft, and arrogance is as sinful as idolatry. Because you rejected the LORD's command, he has rejected you as king."
Proverbs 20: 24-25 The LORD has determined our path; how than can anyone understand the direction his own life is taking?
Think carefully before you promise an offering to God. You might regret it later.
Proverbs 10:18-22 Anyone who hides hatred is a liar. Anyone who speaks gossip is a fool.
The more you talk, the more likely you are to sin. If you are wise, you will keep quiet.
A good person's words are like pure silver; a wicked person's ideas are worthless.
A good person's words will benefit many people, but you can kill yourself with stupidity.
It is the LORD's blessing that makes you wealthy. Hard work can make you no richer.
