Ecclesiastes 5:1-7 CR NIV

Ananias and Sapphira

Acts 5:1-11 Now a man named Ananias, together with his wife Sapphira, also sold a piece of property.

With his wife's full knowledge he kept back part of the money for himself, but brought the rest and put it at the apostles' feet.

Then Peter said, "Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land?

Didn't it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn't the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not  lied just to human beings but to God."

When Ananias heard this, he fell down and died. And great fear seized all who heard what had happened.

Then some young men came forward, wrapped up his body, and carried him out and buried him.

About three hours later his wife came in, not knowing what had happened.

Peter asked her, "Tell me, is this the price you and Ananias got for the land?" "Yes," she said, "that is the price."

Peter said to her, "How could you conspire to test the Spirit of the Lord? listen! The feet of the men who buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out also."

At the moment she fell down at his feet and died. Then the young men came in and, finding her dead, carried her out and buried her beside her husband.

Great fear seized the whole church and all who heard about these events.

Warnings Against Folly

Proverbs 6:1-5 My son, if you have put up security for your neighbor, if you have shaken hands in pledge for a stranger,

you have been trapped by what you said, ensnared by the words of your mouth.

So do this, my son, to free yourself, since you have fallen into your neighbor's hands; Go--to the point of exhaustion-- and give your neighbor no rest!

Allow no sleep to your eyes, no slumber to your eyelids.

Free yourself, like a gazelle from the hand of the hunter, like a bird from the snare of the fowler.

1 Corinthians 11:7-16 A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but woman is the glory of men.

For man did nor come from woman, but woman from man;

neither was man created for woman, but woman for man.

It is for this reason that a woman ought to have authority over her own head, because of the angels.

Nevertheless, in the Lord woman is not independent of man, nor is man independent of woman.

For as woman came from man, so also man is born of woman. But everything coms from God.

Judge for yourselves; Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered?

Does not the very nature of things teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him,

but that if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For long hair is given to her as a covering.

If anyone wants to be contentious about this, we have no other practice--nor do the churches of God.

Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter; Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind.

For God will bring every deed into judgement, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil.
