Ecclesiastes 5:1-7 NLT LRB
Ananias and Sapphira
Acts 5:1-11 But there was a certain man named Ananias who, with his wife, Sapphira, sold some property.
He brought part of the money to the apostles, claiming it was the full amount. With his wife's consent, he kept the rest.
Then Peter said, "Ananias, why have you let Satan fill your heart? You lied to the Holy Spirit, and you kept some of the money for yourself.
The property was yours to sell or not sell, as you wished. And after selling it, the money was also yours to give away. How could you do a thing like this? You weren't lying to us but to God!"
As soon as Ananias heard these words, he fell to the floor and died. Everyone who heard about it was terrified.
Then some young men got up, wrapped him in a sheet, and took him out and buried him.
About three hours later his wife came in, not knowing what had happened.
Peter asked her, "Was this the price you and your husband received for your land?" "Yes," she replied, "that was the price."
And Peter said, "How could the two of you even think of conspiring to test the Spirit of the Lord like this? The young men who buried your husband are just outside the door, and they will carry you out, too."
Instantly, she fell to the floor and died. When the young men came in and saw that she was dead, they carried her out and buried her beside her husband.
Great fear gripped the entire church and everyone else who heard what had happened.
Lessons for Daily Life
Proverbs 6:1-5 My child, if you have put up security for a friend's debt or agreed to guarantee the debt of a stranger--
if you have trapped yourself by your agreement and are caught by what you said--
follow my advice and save yourself, for you have placed yourself at your friend's mercy. Now follow your pride; go and beg to have your name erased.
Don't put it off; do it now! Don't rest until you do.
Save yourself like a gazelle escaping from a hunter, like a bird fleeing from a net.
1 Corinthians 11:7-16 A man should not wear anything on his head when worshipping, for man is made in God's image and reflects God's glory. And woman reflects man's glory.
For the first man didn't come from woman, but the first woman came from man.
And man was not made for woman, but woman was made for man.
For this reason, and because the angels are watching, a woman should wear a covering on her head to show she is under authority.
But among the Lord's people, woman are not independent of men, and men are not independent of woman.
For although the first woman came from man, every other man was born from a woman, and everything comes from God.
Judge for yourselves. Is it right for a woman to pray to God in public without covering her head?
Isn't it obvious that it's disgraceful for a man to haver long hair?
And isn't long hair a woman's pride and joy? For it has been given to her as a covering.
But if anyone wants to argue about this, I simply say that we have no other custom than this, and neither do God's other churches.
Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 That's the whole story. Here mow is my final conclusion; Fear God and obey his commands, for this is everyone's duty.
God will judge us for everything we do, including every secret thing, whether good or bad.
