What God Requires of You

Scripture

Deuteronomy 10:12 (NKJV)
And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you, but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways and to love Him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

A Simple and Clear Call to Devotion

Deuteronomy chapter 10 is Moses’ reminder of God’s mercy, forgiveness, and covenant love. After Israel’s rebellion with the golden calf, God called Moses back up the mountain to rewrite the commandments. This chapter reveals both God’s heart and what He desires from His people.

Verse 12 summarizes the entire chapter with a simple but profound question: What does God require of you? Not empty religion, not outward rituals alone, but a heart fully devoted to Him.

God desires five things:

1. Fear the Lord – not terror, but deep reverence.

2. Walk in His ways – live in obedience and righteousness.

3. Love Him – affection, devotion, relationship.

4. Serve Him – with sincerity and willingness.

5. Give Him your whole heart and soul – complete surrender, not partial commitment.

This chapter teaches that God’s commandments are not burdens but blessings. They guide us into life, peace, and purpose. God asks for our heart because He has already given us His—shown by His patience, compassion, and constant mercy toward His people.

Reflection Questions

1. Am I giving God only parts of my life, or am I serving Him with all my heart and soul?

2. What areas of my walk need to align more closely with God’s ways?

3. How can I deepen my love and reverence for the Lord this week?

Prayer

Lord God, help me to fear You with reverence, walk in Your ways, love You deeply, and serve You with all my heart and soul. Remove anything that competes for my devotion and teach me to live fully surrendered to You. In Jesus name, Amen.
