QUESTION;
I still do not understand Jesus’ saying: “in my father's house are many mansions, I go to prepare a place for you that where I am, there you will be also”.
Dr. ABEL DAMINA:- Remember...that statement was pre resurrection, when he said to them, “let not your heart be troubled”, you believe in God, believe also in me...the only way you can see God is through me.
In verse 2 he says…”in my father's house are many mansions”...He was not talking about a building but “the household of the father” which is the believer. The word mansions is the Greek word “monē”, meaning dwelling places.
So, in the Father's household are many dwelling places...we are the dwelling places in God's Household and all of us together make up the Father’s Household.
Then he now says I go, and when I go, I will come...so Jesus’ going was to come into us.
Let me explain further...when Jesus first came, He came for us(incarnation), when he died and rose, in his resurrection, He came into us.
The next coming which we refer mostly to as the Second coming but technically is the third, will be his coming with us or our appearing with him.
In the First Coming, he came for us,in the second coming, he came into us, in the third coming, we are coming with him.
Colossians 3:4...when Christ who is our life shall appear, we shall appear with him.
In Romans it is called, the manifestation of the sons of God, the unveiling of our true colour, where mortality will give way to immortality...we shall be changed in a moment and our true identity will be manifested.
John 14:2,3…So, “Jesus’ going was to prepare to receive us….that where he is, there we will be also. It's called an inseparable union.
Then he now says, I will come again and receive you to myself. So, the believer and Jesus are in an inseparable union.
What Jesus was saying was, in my death burial and resurrection, you and i will be brought into a union, a union that cannot be separated, that where i am, there you will be also...so that what I have, you have, what I can do, you can also do.
