THREE ANGELS BROADCASTING NETWORK DEVOTIONAL
A Cry From the Refrigerator.

“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10

When it came time for my compulsory military service here in Russia, I requested to be sent to Afghanistan. I was a fatalist and believed that everything in life is predetermined—including how long we live and how we will die. Of course, I didn’t think I would be killed in Afghanistan; however, I was very seriously wounded there and almost died. I underwent three very difficult operations and endured a tough period of rehabilitation. The army is a brotherhood, but it is also cruel, especially when you fight in those “hot spots,” then discover that life will be forever darkened by memories of the scenes of violence and death.

After the army, the question arose of what to do next. Many of my friends solved this with the help of alcohol and drugs, but I’d been into sports since childhood, so I took up hand-to-hand combat, trained athletes, and then opened a construction company. But a normal life eluded me, and those memories from my military past often returned. Finally, I also began drinking heavily, and as a result, I destroyed my family and my business. I reacted very badly to my wife’s attempts to turn to God for the sake of preserving our marriage, not knowing that after some time, I would unexpectedly become a believer, myself.

My cry to God came during an unpleasant and dangerous situation where I was set up by my comrades at work, and because of their betrayal, my soul became even more troubled than before. Everything was falling apart. I began calling on God in my own words by going out on the balcony and spreading out all my problems to Him.

Meanwhile, a situation at work was heating up, and in the end, some of my workers demanded a large sum of money or a new car, or else they’d get rid of me! And since I couldn’t give them what they demanded, they handcuffed me, threw me into a refrigerator, and locked the door!

It wasn’t just cold in there, but there was so little air I could hardly breathe! I didn’t want to die, and I couldn’t believe that I was predestined to suffocate in a refrigerator! So I began to pray earnestly, asking God for help—and He answered wonderfully. They released me, brought me home, and left me alone after that.

Because I established a good relationship with the Lord, my relationship with my wife also improved. Seemingly impossible problems were resolved, and God’s promises were fulfilled. As I look back, I can tell you that I have never regretted changing from a complete unbeliever to a believer. When I’ve placed my faith in the Lord, He has never let me down!
