Ok folks I am going to try this thought with you all. And I encourage you to really think, and study. If you feel the need to say anything please do not be offensive. I am just working out a though process of thought, maybe its right, maybe its wrong. It is however a thought and question that many a scholar/theologian debate.
Genesis 1;26-31 lets read them:
26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.
30 And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.
31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

NOW thinking on this we see that God created male and female, to go forth and multiply.

Next God rested. And when we know that if God rested, it is one day, but for humanity it is 1000yrs. Our man and woman have multiplied during this time.

Next God created the garden in Eden, and made Adam to live and tend the garden. He had Adam name the animals [who I think might have been able to communicate with Adam to keep him company in God's absence from the garden] I figure some time has past at this point too, a couple of days for God, so perhaps another 1000 or so years.
Then God creates Eve for Adam. Again we have no idea how long they lived in peace in the garden with God often visiting them, until the day Eve is tempted by Satan. This brought their exile.
From the exile to the birth of Cain and Able, we do not know how long of a time has past.
To the exile of Cain after he killed his brother. We have again no idea of time passage.
Note: all the passage of time means many years. As Adam and Eve in the garden lived assuming in God's time. [day=1000 yrs] After their exile our way of understanding time has begun.
Now think back to the 6th day and those male and female, and the days that have since past, [being thousands of years] they multiplied and now we have a multitude of people upon the earth.
Cain is exiled, and he cries out to God that “Whoever finds me will kill me”. If there were only his family this fear would make no sense. Move forward a bit as now Cain has wandered and settled in the east of Eden in the land of Nod where he took a wife, and had a family, built a city.
Again I say if it were only his family [Adam & Eve and their children who did not leave their homeland] it would not make any sense. Think about it, how do you do all this without other people upon the earth?
You see I fail to believe that Cain having been exiled by God and his family, came back, took one of his sisters [who would have to be much younger than he is] and then went back to his home in Nod, and "knew" her, had a family, built a city. I'm sorry it does not make sense.
Yes the bible tells us that Adam lived 930yrs and had many other children after Cain, Able, and Shet [Seth in english]. We do not know how long Cain lived as it does not tell us.
