THREE ANGELS BROADCASTING NETWORK DEVOTIONAL
Growth Marks

“But, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ—from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.”

Ephesians 4:15–16.

The loving father walked his beautiful daughter down the aisle and presented her to her soon-to-be husband. The dad kissed her and took his honored seat, where he gazed upon his cherished love. How could it be? he wondered. When did she turn into such a grown woman? Where did my little girl go?

It seemed like only yesterday that he was throwing her into the air while she squealed in delight for more! The overwhelming obstacles of growing up she had faced were now just minor bumps, easily mastered. Each year, the marks of her growth were etched on the hallway wall. The years had passed for him as if they had been only a single night’s slumber.

Recently, I felt the same way in my Christian walk. I find myself facing things today that I once met with fear and trepidation—but now, with strength and assurance. Things that once were obstacles that caused anxiety, I hardly give a second thought. When did this happen? Surely, it wasn’t overnight.

Day by day, moment by moment, we take our Father’s hand, and He leads us. If we follow, we begin to grow and become more like Him. It’s called sanctification, and it doesn’t happen overnight—but it does happen. Our lives are forever changing, and there will always be new anxieties and obstacles. We will never be totally free from them until we reach our heavenly home. But rest assured that if we walk faithfully with God, one day, we will look back and be amazed at our “growth marks” on the wall.
