Theme: God’s Guiding Presence
Scripture Reading: Exodus 33:14–15
“And He said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest.
And he said unto Him, If Thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence.”
Devotional Message
Introduction
After the sin of the golden calf, Moses stood in the gap, interceding for the people of Israel. Though God promised to send an angel to lead them into the Promised Land, Moses refused to move forward without God Himself. He did not want a substitute presence he wanted God’s personal, guiding presence.
This moment teaches us a powerful truth: success, progress, and destiny are empty without God’s presence.
I. God’s Presence Is Promised
“My presence shall go with thee.”
A. The Value of God’s Presence
God’s presence had already proven faithful to Israel:
1. He Protected Them
From the pursuing Egyptians
From the attacking Amalekites
2. He Provided for Them
Water in the desert for their thirst
Manna and quail for their hunger
3. He Guided Them
Through a trackless and unfamiliar wilderness
Reflection: Where would we be today without God’s protection, provision, and guidance?
B. The Demands of God’s Presence
God’s presence is not cheap; it requires a response.
1. A Holy Life
“So shall we be a separated people…” (v.15)
God’s grace is never an excuse for sinful living
His presence empowers us to live holy
2. Exclusive Worship
God will not share His glory with other gods
True trust is found in Jesus alone
“I am the way, the truth, and the life.”
C. The Results of God’s Presence
“I will give you rest.”
1. Future Rest
God would lead them into the Promised Land
Eternal rest belongs only to those who know Jesus
“There is no rest, saith the Lord, for the wicked.”
2. Present Rest
“Come unto Me, and I will give you rest.”
This is the first consciousness of the Christian life—peace in Christ
II. God’s Presence Is Desired
“If Thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence.”
A. Refusing to Move Without God
Living apart from God invites disaster
A life without God is a life without direction
Like Moses, we should say, “I wouldn’t even cross the street without Him.”
B. God’s Presence Must Be Desired
“The Lord is with you while you are with Him.”
God will never force Himself on anyone
He honors your freedom of choice
He respects your decisions
He will not barge into your life
There may come a day when people wish they had chosen Him sooner.
C. A Wise Prayer for Today
“Lord, I’m not leaving here without You.”
Personal Reflection:
1. Do you really want a Christless life?
2. Why gamble with your soul when eternity is at stake?
3. A Christless life leads to a Christless eternity
Closing Prayer
Lord, we desire Your presence above everything else. Guide us, lead us, and never let us walk alone. We choose You today and always. Amen.
