The Greatest of Gifts
I’m a Poet with no words to speak of
Worthy of You Lord and Your awesome love
Yet You left the comforts of Heaven above
To come to earth and show sinners Your love
Divinity wrapped in swaddling clothes
Just why, none but the God of Heaven knows
Yet the babe, the Son of God, cried out below
In the dark of night, the Light would glow
Yes divinity wrapped in human flesh
With blood and bones, but divine no less
You came down to save us from our own mess
And fit us for Heaven’s Sabbath rest
What love divine is this greatest of gifts
How sweet the grace that our souls does lift
What wondrous love that sealed the rift
Between God and men who were set adrift
Two thousand years ago God became man
That nothing can take us out of Your hand
Sweet Jesus save us as only You can
Let naught come between us and Your plan
One blessed night heaven’s angels sang
And those heavenly chorus’s echoes rang
Into the stillness our world ever changed
A beautiful fulfillment of God’s birth pangs
Let us not hear what evil doers say
But Your precious word May we hear and obey
As we give You our hearts to walk Your way
God bless us all this Christmas Day!
