DAY 1 — “God Enters the Night”

“And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night.”
— Luke 2:8

God could have waited for morning.
He didn’t.
He could have waited for order, peace, readiness, holiness.
He didn’t.
Jesus was born at night.
Not just because of the hour —
but because night is where fear lives.
Night is where clarity fades.
Night is where predators roam.
Night is where people feel small.
And that is exactly where God chose to arrive.
Christmas did not happen in a palace at noon.
It happened in a field, among working men, after dark.
This matters.
Because it tells us something we keep forgetting:
God does not wait for you to clean up your darkness before He comes.
He moves into it.
If your life feels shadowed right now — uncertain, heavy, unresolved —
Christmas declares this truth:
The night is not proof of God’s absence.
It may be the very place He is about to step in.

Where have you assumed God is waiting for “daylight” before acting?
Name the night.
Don’t avoid it.
Invite Him into it.

Lord,
I stop pretending it is already morning.
I invite You into my night.
Step into what I fear.
Shine where I cannot see.
Amen.
