Too High a Price
Living with bitterness and resentment is a terrible way to live, for it quite literally chokes out every ounce of happiness from your life. Whether it is because someone intentionally or unintentionally hurt you, or you're angry about your own poor life decisions, harboring resentment isn’t the answer. If someone has offended you and you haven’t forgiven them, it will fester in your heart and grow roots of bitterness that run deep. You may not even be aware, but it will be obvious to others through your words and actions. The Bible says in Ephesians 4:31-32, “Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.” There is no escaping pain on this earth because we live in a sinful world. But no matter what, keep moving forward. Five years from now, everything that you are currently bitter about won’t even matter. Don’t waste time lamenting about what you wish you had done, how life is so unfair, or an injustice done to you. Just let it go! All the anger, all the bitterness, and resentment . . . let it go! Job 5:2 tells us, “Surely resentment destroys the fool.” Don’t let the pain from your past ruin the happiness of your future. Remember, anything that costs you eternal peace is too high a price to pay. Text: Proverbs 17:9, Psalm 37:8, Romans 12:21, Hebrews 12:15
