THE GLORY OF THE LATTER HOUSE
Haggai 2:9 (KJV)
“The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, saith the LORD of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, saith the LORD of hosts.”
This verse is often quoted with excitement, yet seldom examined with understanding. To fully grasp its power, we must ask an important question: What exactly is the “former house,” and what is the “latter house” the prophet speaks of?
In Scripture, the “house” of God represents His dwelling place. Under the Old Covenant, this house referred to the temple—specifically the Ark of the Covenant, where God’s presence was revealed and concealed. It was the sacred space where heaven met earth.
However, in the New Covenant, God’s dwelling shifted. His presence was no longer confined to a physical structure but revealed fully in Christ Jesus. Jesus Himself became the true and living temple—the latter house—filled with surpassing and eternal glory.
This truth is beautifully clarified in Haggai 2:9 (AMPC):
“The latter glory of this house [with its successor, to which Jesus came] shall be greater than the former, says the Lord of hosts; and in this place will I give peace and prosperity, says the Lord of hosts.”
The prophecy points prophetically to Christ—the ultimate manifestation of God’s glory. And now, because we are in Him, we partake of that greater glory. In Christ, we receive peace, wholeness, and prosperity, just as the Lord promised.
Glory be to God!
Prayer
Spirit of the Living God, thank You for unveiling the truth of Your Word to me. Thank You for opening my eyes to see, understand, and walk in this revelation. I receive it with faith and gratitude. Amen.
