DAY 4 â âFear Was the First Reactionâ
Scripture:
âAnd the angel said to them, âDo not be afraid.ââ
â Luke 2:10
The first emotion recorded at Christmas is not joy.
It is fear.
Not because God was cruel â
but because holiness disrupts familiarity.
When heaven breaks into human space,
people donât relax.
They tremble.
The shepherds werenât sinful monsters.
They were faithful men â
and they were still afraid.
This matters, because we often assume fear means distance from God.
But Scripture shows fear can mean God is closer than expected.
The angels didnât rebuke the fear.
They spoke into it.
âDo not be afraidâ was not a command to perform bravery.
It was an invitation to trust.
If encountering God has unsettled you â
challenged you â
exposed you â
you may not be failing faith.
You may be meeting Him.
What if your fear isnât rejection â
but revelation?
Donât run.
Listen.
Lord,
I stop mistaking discomfort for Your absence.
Speak into my fear.
I am listening.
Amen.
