The Best Christmas Tree
Some people look forward to the holiday season all year long. They love the decorations, the smell of evergreen trees, shopping for gifts, and singing carols with friends. People tend to be more generous around Christmas time - even nicer and friendlier. But in the midst of all the hustle and bustle, too many people forget about the true meaning of Christmas - the real reason for the season. This year, instead of focusing on the tree in your living room, focus on another tree, the one that Jesus died on. Think about the reason Jesus came down to this earth - not to decorate a tree but to hang on it so that you might have eternal life. As you sit in your easy chair, enjoying the twinkling lights on your tree, let your mind drift away to a night long ago, when baby Jesus was born. He didn’t just come to this earth as an exciting adventure or to experience how it would be to walk around as a human. He didn’t come just because “He could.” He came for one reason: to hang on a tree of death, giving His life so that you might live. What a gift! This plan of salvation is a beautiful story of unfathomable love which will amaze you, humble you, and transform you. The world is darkened by sin, but because of Christ’s sacrifice on the best Christmas tree ever, that life-giving tree on Calvary, His light shines brighter than all other lights, as it brightly beams hope to the world. Text: 1 Peter 2:24, Romans 5:8, Philippians 2:6-8, Mark 10:45
