THE ADVENT TRUTH
Some people say that, “Jesus is our Sabbath, therefore the 7th-day Sabbath no longer matters.”
Translation (with love, brother/sister):
“Because Jesus gives me spiritual rest, I now get to ignore the one commandment God blessed, sanctified, and wrote with His own finger—yet somehow, I still believe lying, stealing, and adultery are literal sins.”
Let’s get real. Nowhere — I repeat, (NOWHERE
) — in the Bible does it say Jesus is the Sabbath. That’s your theology, not Scripture. Yes, Jesus gives us rest (Matthew 11:28), but that doesn’t cancel the day He made holy long before sin existed (Genesis 2:2-3). That’s like saying because Jesus is our righteousness, we can ignore, “Thou shalt not murder.”
Hebrews 4:9 literally says, “There remains therefore a sabbath rest (sabbatismos) for the people of God.”
• Paul wrote that DECADES after the resurrection.
• He didn’t say the Sabbath became a “symbol.”
• He said it STILL REMAINS.
Jesus didn’t replace the Sabbath — He restored it from man-made traditions (Mark 2:27-28). He didn’t spiritualize it away — He showed us how to keep it right: by healing, blessing, resting, and worshipping (Luke 4:16; Matt. 12:12).
Let’s be honest — we don’t do away with “Thou shalt not steal” because Jesus is our Provider. We don’t toss “Thou shalt not commit adultery” because Jesus is our purity. So why the gymnastics with the 4th commandment?
Because it’s the only one that forces us to choose between GOD'S COMMANDMENT and man’s tradition.
And Jesus already told us what He thinks of replacing God’s commandments with human ideas (Mark 7:7-9).
So yes — Jesus is our rest.
But that doesn’t erase the Sabbath rest He commanded us to REMEMBER (Exodus 20:8).
It just means we keep it the way He did — with joy, freedom, and faith — not legalism or tradition.
Now… since Jesus is “Lord of the Sabbath” (Mark 2:28), you might want to stop arguing against His day — and start honoring it with Him.
