Theme: Thanksgiving That Acknowledges God’s Sovereign Reign
Series: Gratitude and Celebration

Scripture:
“We give You thanks, O Lord God Almighty,
The One who is and who was and who is to come,
Because You have taken Your great power and reigned.”
— Revelation 11:17 (NKJV)

Reflection

This scripture reveals a high level of thanksgiving — thanksgiving that recognizes authority, not just blessings. In Revelation 11, voices in heaven are not thanking God because everything feels comfortable. They are thanking Him because He reigns.

Notice the order of the verse. God is acknowledged first for who He is — the Lord God Almighty. Then He is acknowledged across time — who is, who was, and who is to come. Finally, thanksgiving is offered because His power is active and His reign is established.

This teaches us that true thanksgiving is not dependent on circumstances. You can thank God even when situations are still unfolding, because His throne has never been threatened. God does not reign when things go well; He reigns at all times.

When you thank God from this understanding, you are making a prophetic declaration: “I recognize Your authority over my life, my season, and my future.” Thanksgiving becomes an act of faith that aligns your heart with heaven’s perspective.

A believer who understands God’s sovereignty does not panic easily, because they know that the One in control has already taken His power and is reigning.

๐Ÿ›  Practical Application

Today, practice thanksgiving that honors God’s rule.

Thank God for His authority before asking for His intervention.

Declare God’s reign over areas where answers seem delayed.

Refuse to let fear dominate when you know God is still on the throne.

When you thank God for reigning, you are surrendering control and affirming trust.

Prayer

Lord God Almighty, I give You thanks because You reign. You are the same yesterday, today, and forever. I acknowledge Your authority over my life, my circumstances, and my future. Let my heart remain steady in the confidence that You have taken Your great power and You rule over all. Teach me to live from this truth daily. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Thought / Challenge for the Day

Can you thank God today, not just for what He gives, but for the fact that He reigns?
Let your thanksgiving be a declaration of trust in His sovereign power and eternal authority.
