DAY 3 — PETER
“Before the Rooster Crows”
Scripture: Luke 22:61–62 · John 21:15–17

Peter wasn’t faking his faith.
He truly believed he would never walk away.
“Even if all fall away, I never will.”
But confidence without proximity is fragile.
Peter followed — at a distance.
Close enough to see.
Far enough to deny.
When the rooster crowed, Scripture says Jesus looked at Peter.
No anger.
No accusation.
Just recognition.
And Peter remembered.
Failure didn’t reveal Peter’s lack of love.
It revealed where his love had stopped drawing strength.
Later, Jesus didn’t ask Peter to prove himself.
He asked him one question — three times:
“Do you love Me?”
Not “Will you try harder?”
Not “Will you speak louder?”
Just proximity again.
Modern mirror moment:
We are confident in public but inconsistent in private.
We declare devotion, yet avoid closeness when it costs us comfort.

Jesus, teach my love to stay near.
Strip me of confidence that doesn’t come from intimacy.
I don’t want to follow at a distance anymore.
