Swimming Upstream
It doesn’t take much effort to do what everyone else is doing. A dead fish can float downstream, but it takes a LIVE one to swim upstream. Being your authentic self takes courage and strength. Too many people just want to “fit in” and go with the flow. Perhaps the fear of not being liked or worrying about what others think prevents them from allowing people to see who they really are. But all monkeys cannot hang on the same branch. How boring it would be if everyone was created with the same body, talents, or personality. Everyone is gifted, but some people never open their package. What an incredible gift God gave us when He made us all uniquely different - each special in our own way. Instead of hiding, embrace who you are and let others see the real “you.” Don’t allow your fears and insecurities to get in the way. When fear starts to creep into your heart, reach out to Jesus. The Bible says in 2 Timothy 1:7, “For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” Claim His promise in Deuteronomy 31:6: “Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the LORD your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.” With Holy Spirit power, you can boldly take the plunge - and swim upstream. Text: Psalm 139:14-16, Ephesians 2:10, Proverbs 16:3, Romans 12:4-8
