Strong and Courageous
Scripture
Deuteronomy 31:6 (NKJV)
Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.
Courage Rooted in God’s Presence
Deuteronomy chapter 31 marks a major transition. Moses is preparing to hand leadership over to Joshua, and Israel is about to enter the Promised Land without the leader they had known for decades. Fear could easily take hold. The future was unfamiliar, the battles were real, and the responsibility was great.
In this moment, God speaks reassurance. Strength and courage are not based on confidence in self, experience, or circumstances. They are grounded in the unchanging promise of God’s presence. The Lord Himself goes with His people. He does not abandon them in transitions, challenges, or unknown seasons.
For believers today, this verse is a powerful reminder that courage flows from knowing God is with us. We may face changes, responsibilities, or fears that feel overwhelming, but God’s presence remains constant. His promise is clear and personal: He will not leave you. He will not forsake you.
This verse teaches us that fear loses its grip when faith rests in God’s faithful presence.
Reflection Questions
1. What situation in my life is calling me to be strong and courageous
2. Am I allowing fear to shape my decisions instead of trusting God’s presence
3. How does knowing God will never leave me change how I face uncertainty
Prayer
Lord God, thank You for Your promise to never leave me or forsake me. When fear rises and the future feels uncertain, help me to stand strong and courageous in Your presence. Teach me to trust You fully and walk forward in faith. In Jesus name, Amen.
