Face to Face.

The James Webb Space Telescope, launched on December 25, 2021, can view objects up to 100 times fainter than the renowned Hubble can. Built with 18 hexagonal mirrors that span 21 feet, the new telescope will focus on observing objects via the infrared spectrum. Astronomers hope to see some of the most distant objects in the universe.
What type of telescope does it take to see the face of God? It’s not technological. Sin broke the intimate connection between our first parents and the Creator in Eden. Moses desired to see God’s face on Mount Sinai, but the Lord said to him, “You cannot see My face; for no man shall see Me, and live” (Exodus 33:20).
Yet, the Bible tells us Moses, who at the burning bush “hid his face, for he was afraid to look upon God” (Exodus 3:6), spoke with God “face to face, as a man speaks to his friend” (33:11). The idiom “face to face” does not mean a literal viewing of God’s face; rather, it suggests an intimate communication and understanding of God. As David wrote, “As for me, I will see Your face in righteousness” (Psalm 17:15).
What does it take to see God’s face? “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God” (Matthew 5:8). On this earth, we have a limited view of God: “Now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face” (1 Corinthians 13:12). But someday our vision will be transformed: “Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is” (1 John 3:2).
The promise to “see His face” is connected to how God’s “name shall be on [our] foreheads.” The redeemed servants of the Lord, who do not receive the mark of the beast, will have the seal of God because they reflect His character through obedience to His commandments.
Dear Father, I want to see you face to face. Please help me be seen by you and to see you.
