Foundational Commitments Before opening the text, establish these convictions: The Bible is God’s inspired Word and is best understood in context Scripture interprets Scripture Consistent daily study produces long-term spiritual growth We do not rush the text; we let the text lead Our goal is observation, understanding, and obedience Daily faithfulness matters more than speed or volume. 2. Daily Study Rhythm Each study session follows the same flow: Prayer for illumination Careful reading of the passage Contextual observation Sound interpretation Personal and practical application This rhythm is repeated every day, every passage, every book. 3. Study Structure (Verse-by-Verse) Step 1: Read the Text Slowly Read the passage in its entirety Read it more than once if possible Note repeated words, themes, commands, promises, or contrasts Observe what the text actually says before asking what it means What does the text say? 4. Context Context keeps Scripture from being misunderstood or misused. A. Book Context Who wrote the book? Who was the original audience? Why was it written? What is the major theme of the book? B. Chapter Context How does this chapter fit into the overall message of the book? What comes before and after this passage? C. Verse Context How does this verse connect to surrounding verses? Is it part of a command, narrative, warning, or promise? What did this mean to the original audience? 5. Interpretation Interpretation explains the meaning of the text. Define key words and phrases Identify the author’s intent Distinguish between description and prescription Note doctrinal truths revealed in the passage Compare with other Scriptures for clarity and consistency Avoid speculation. Stay anchored in the text. What is the intended meaning of this passage? 6. Application Application flows naturally from correct interpretation. Application should be: Personal Practical Obedient Spirit-led Ask: What does this passage reveal about God? What does it reveal about people? Is there a command to obey? Is there a sin to avoid? Is there a promise to trust? Is there an example to follow? How should this truth change the way I live today? 7. Observation to Obedience Healthy Bible study always moves in this order: Observation → Interpretation → Application → Transformation Knowledge without obedience leads to pride. Truth applied leads to spiritual maturity. 8. Long-Term Study Plan Emphasis Study one book at a time Do not skip difficult passages Teach what the text says, not what you want it to say Let Scripture shape theology, not tradition or emotion Commit to daily consistency over occasional intensity This method trains believers to handle the Word accurately, walk faithfully, and grow steadily.
