Emotional Roller Coaster
Too often, people allow their emotions to be controlled by their life’s circumstances. They’re happy when everything is going great, sad when there’s a missed opportunity, offended when someone disagrees with their opinion, or angry when they’re mistreated. But if you allow your feelings to dictate your happiness, you’ll be on an emotional roller coaster that will never bring peace. Don’t allow the things of this world to control your thoughts or steal your joy. God is an emotional God who created you to feel a whole range of emotions, but He wants you to stay grounded on His firm foundation of trust, knowing that He loves you, desires the best for you, and does not want you to live in fear. The Bible says in Isaiah 26:3-4, “You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock.” And Psalm 56:3-4 says, “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can flesh do to me?” In Psalm 33:21, we are again reminded where to put our trust: “For our heart is glad in him, because we trust in his holy name.” God is the only one who truly knows how you are feeling. So, leave all your worries to Him, and He will help you work it out. He doesn’t expect you to be jumping for joy when something bad happens. You’re human, with human emotions, and it’s okay to cry or feel bad when you’re upset. Your feelings are “your” feelings, so don’t let anyone invalidate or minimize how you feel. No one else can see through your eyes. Your feelings are inherently valid, and they matter. Never let anyone make you feel otherwise. After all, as the old expression goes, “It is the one who lives in the house who knows where the roof leaks.” But here’s the good news: God is an understanding God full of grace and mercy! He patiently waits for you to reach out to Him whenever you are ready . . . waiting for you with His amazing love - no guilt trips, no judgment, no stern reproach - just tenderly waiting with open arms as you cry your tears, shout at the ceiling, and pace the floor. And when you have released all the emotions inside, you’ll see that your Lord and Savior is still standing beside you. Don’t wait any longer . . . run into His waiting arms of love and be comforted by the only One who can soothe your troubled soul. You don’t have to keep riding that emotional roller coaster . . . just give every worry, care, stress, pain, and heartache to Jesus, and He will replace your feelings of sorrow with His sweet peace and joy. Now that’s something to praise Jesus for! Text: Proverbs 16:32, Philippians 4:7, 2 Peter 1:5-9, Ephesians 4:26-27
