Good morning to everyone. Grace and Peace be with you.

Yesterday turned into an adventure. It started off with a beautiful drive to accomplish as many of the year-end tasks as possible, while staying on top of the current day’s instructions. My clerk and I were moving and grooving and making things happen. After lunch, things stalled a little on the end-of-year things, but the carriers were coming in and our daily chores were getting done. The day was flying by for me. Then I got the phone call. My husband needed to get to the ER his blood pressure issues may be signaling a stroke.

Fast forward, we are in the ER. As we are sitting in the lobby waiting, God directed our cardiologist to walk through right where we are. My husband approached and discussed the issue we were having. Super nice guy, who listened and looked at my husband and stated that he did not believe there were any stroke indicators other than the blood pressure and that is probably the reason for his headaches. He looked at the med list we carry with us and told me where I could increase his medicine. Then said we could wait or go home if we wanted. Faring on the caution side, we stayed. I wanted the headache to go away because my husband was in severe pain.

We walk, what seems like a labyrinth maze, to get to our room. Of all the trips we have had to make to the ER, this was by far different. (Far too difficult to explain). We arrived at the hospital after 4 and we left at 10:30. We got home at just shy of midnight. Our stay was worth it. Headache went from a 9, pushing 10, to a 5. The doctor gave sound advice for follow-ups next week.

This morning, though sleep-deprived, his numbers are much, much better. Numbers that I am not scared of. Numbers that will allow him to better function today.

The initial contact phone call from my husband was hard. Like a hard smack to the forehead. “The cardiology office said that I need to go to the ER right now, I might be having a stroke.” Those words hit heavy. Though the smart thing probably would have been to call an ambulance, I was at peace driving home to get him. In the car, I was at peace. In the ER lobby, I was at peace. Then the cardiologist blessed us without realizing we were even there, and I was at peace. We got our room; I was at peace. Talking to this very loud doctor, I was at peace. On the drive home, I was at peace. And even though I only got about 5 hours of sleep, I am at peace.

Last night, as I said my prayers of thanks, dark and demented images entered my mind. They consumed every image of light that there was. I tried to ignore them, but they were persistent. I was finally tired of their nonsense and rebuked them all. They did not flee instantly; it took some firm standing, but they left. I played beautiful music to settle my mind and slept like a baby.

The way we start a year is how we will live a year. I started my year with the expectation of peace. Two days in and I have already ticked off the enemy to the point that he has thrown a hard curve ball. Yet I still have peace. In lieu of a devotional to listen to, I have started the Bible. Really listening this time. Finding that I do remember a lot, but also that there are many little details that I have overlooked. It is fascinating. Because I am devoted to learning all the Word I can, the enemy is furious. With Knowledge, his world is not as terrifying or manipulative. It just is and he has no power over me.

Start your year with a sincere desire to learn as much as you can of His Word. You will be amazed at how peaceful your soul becomes.

Be blessed.
