A Box of Chocolates
When your bills pile up, your health is gone, you just lost your job, and feel like you are at the end of your rope with no place left to turn, it’s human nature to just want relief. Something as simple as receiving a bouquet of flowers, a box of chocolates, or a hug can make you feel better. That might help temporarily, or even put a smile on your face for a moment, but it won’t solve your problems. Jesus is your answer, and He is your only answer. He alone can give you strength and courage to give your struggles to Him so you can experience the peace that comes from trusting in Him. Discouragement is one of the most powerful and effective tools the devil uses to separate you from God. If he can get inside your head and make you believe that life is hopeless . . . he wins! But don’t worry! God is never blind to your tears, deaf to your prayers, or silent to your pain. He sees, hears, and He will deliver you. He will give you joy, comfort, and hope to live each day to the fullest. Sometimes you’ll receive God’s blessings from the encouragement of others. Christians should never miss an opportunity to lift up those who are sad and despondent. Say a kind word to the grocery clerk who always has a scowl on her face. Affirmation to a single mother raising five kids will almost immediately put a smile on her face, and don’t forget to affirm your pastor who is ministering and carrying the burdens of all his members. You can never go wrong when you show others that you care and that they matter. Proverbs 15:23 tells us, “A man has joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good it is!” And in Hebrews 10:24-25, we are counseled, “Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” Even though this world is filled with heartache, encouraging others with kind words and actions will go a long way to help those who are hurting, lonely, and discouraged . . . and a box of chocolates and a hug is nice too! Text: Romans 15:2, 1 Thessalonians 5:14, James 2:14-17, John 16:33
