THREE ANGELS BROADCASTING NETWORK DEVOTIONAL
Lessons from Stained Glass.

“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10

I have always been amazed by my family’s artistic talents. Watching my sister, aunt, and even my niece turn a blank piece of paper into gorgeous, life-like pictures is incredible. For me, that will never be a possibility, but last fall, I decided to try something different. Maybe I could learn to make stained glass!

I started doing research—reading, watching videos, and talking to my talented aunt. I was relieved to find out that I could rely on a pattern and that many patterns even provide color suggestions! Finally, I was able to get the tools—and the best part—some beautiful sheets of glass.

My first project was a disaster. But learning is a process, so I made some mental notes and started on the next one. On the big cuts, don’t be scared. For the details, don’t be in a hurry. Don’t worry if it doesn’t fit together; that’s what the grinder is for. Wrapping each piece in copper foil is easy, but don’t get distracted. Then the lead—too little and your piece won’t be strong enough, while too much will leave awful lumps. Then comes the reward of scrubbing it clean and holding it up to the light.

So I pray, Lord, let me be committed to following the pattern You have given us in Your Word. Let me be willing to be cut, even those big cuts where I can’t imagine being broken. Don’t let me lose patience as You break off each tiny piece, ever so carefully. Let me be kind when my rough edges don’t fit in with the rough edges of those around me. Remind me that You will take those off of each of us so that we can fit perfectly into Your pattern. Please don’t let me get distracted with the easy parts that don’t seem to matter—because those are the foundation. Let me love—not with a selfish or overbearing love, but with the pure love of Jesus. A love that will unite me with others, strong enough to be held up to the Light. Then the world will see the beautiful picture of God’s true character in each one of us.
