Hate-Driven Assault on a Church in Pakistan: Sacred Bibles Desecrated in Violent Early-Morning Attack-The church where my father serves was attacked, the Bible was desecrated, the cross was broken, and the church doors and sound system were broken. I request all of you to pray and keep this matter before God. God will do justice.
January 5, 2026 – 4:00 AM
In the early hours of January 5, 2026, at approximately 4:00 AM, a violent and hate-driven attack was carried out on a church located in the Raiwind district of Punjab, Pakistan. According to the First Information Report (FIR) by the police, an individual unlawfully entered the church premises with the deliberate intent to vandalize, desecrate, and terrorize.
The attacker broke multiple windows, violently overturned and threw the Holy Communion table, tore apart worship books and Holy Bibles, and damaged musical instruments used for church services. The scene inside the church clearly shows extreme aggression, hostility, and deep-rooted hatred. The perpetrator entered the house of worship with destructive force, acting like a storm, leaving behind destruction and trauma for the Christian community.
Initially, the FIR was registered against unknown persons. Following a swift and professional response, the Punjab Police arrested a suspect in connection with the attack. The accused is currently in police custody, and further investigation is underway to determine the motive, full facts, and whether any additional individuals were involved. Legal proceedings are being carried out in accordance with Pakistani law.
We acknowledge and commend the prompt and effective action of the Punjab Police. Their rapid intervention prevented further damage and potential loss of life. This swift response is especially significant given the painful history of this region. In previous years, in the same area, a Christian man, Shahzad, and his pregnant wife, Shamma, were brutally murdered at a brick kiln by a violent mob. The police action in the present case helped stop another incident from escalating into mass violence.
Although no lives were lost in this latest attack, the violent desecration of Holy Bibles, sacred church property, and worship materials has deeply shaken and traumatized the local Christian community. An attack on a church is not merely vandalism; it is an attack on religious freedom, human dignity, and the right to worship peacefully.
We continue to pray for peace, protection, and justice. As the year 2026 unfolds, it is evident that new challenges and threats lie ahead for Christians in Pakistan. Now more than ever, we must stand united, remain firm in our faith, and raise our voices for those who suffer in silence.
We urgently request the global body of Christ to keep the persecuted Christians of Pakistan in prayer—for protection, justice, healing, and strength to endure.
