Obedience Without Delay
Scripture
“Abraham was ninety-nine years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin.”
Genesis 17:24 (NKJV)
“Even at Ninety-Nine”
At ninety-nine years old, Abraham wasn’t a young man. He had walked with God for decades, yet in Genesis 17, God called him to take a deeper step of covenant obedience: circumcision—the physical mark of God’s covenant with him and his descendants.
And what did Abraham do? He obeyed—immediately. No delay. No excuses. No negotiating.
This verse may seem like a small detail in the story, but it reflects a profound truth:
Obedience has no age limit, and faith doesn’t retire.
Whether you’re young or old, just beginning your walk with God or decades in, there will always be new places of obedience God calls you to. They may be uncomfortable. They may challenge your pride. They may cost you something.
But like Abraham, we’re invited to respond with a heart that says, “Yes, Lord.”
Reflection Questions
1. Is there something God is asking me to do that I’ve been putting off?
2. Am I making excuses based on my age, season, or comfort level?
3. What does radical obedience look like in my life right now?
Prayer
Lord God, thank You for never giving up on shaping me. Help me to have a heart like Abraham—willing to obey no matter the cost, no matter my age or season of life. Teach me to respond quickly, faithfully, and humbly to Your voice. I want to walk fully in Your covenant promises. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
