A Final Verdict

A legal appeal is a process by which a case is reviewed by a higher authority when a party makes a request for a previous court decision to be overturned. Appellate courts have been around for thousands of years to provide a system of correction.
Today’s text points to the reason that “the words of the prophecy of this book” are not to be sealed (v. 10). The time when the destiny of every person will be fixed is coming quickly. Christ will end His intercessory work in the heavenly sanctuary and come to save His people. There will be no second chances for the wicked once the wrath of God begins to be poured out in the seven last plagues.
This is not a decision made by God alone. It is one’s own choice to war against the Creator or to honor Him. It’s a resolution made not in a moment but through daily choices that lead us closer to God or further away from Him. Some decisions might seem small—to watch something impure “just once,” to cling to bitterness against someone who has hurt us—but each choice is determining our fate. God closes human probation at a time when every mind has been settled, and the final crisis helps to hasten the decision-making process.
And while there is certainly a close of probation for the whole human race, each individual destiny is fixed in this life, which can end at any moment. The doctrine that salvation can be attained after death is a deception of the enemy. “Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God; but exhort one another daily, while it is called, ‘Today,’ lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin” (Hebrews 3:12, 13).
Let us stand with Joshua, who challenged Israel: “Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, … but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD” (Joshua 24:15, emphasis added).
Heavenly Father, I choose today to follow You. Every decision I make will lead me closer to the kingdom.
