Chapter 16 The Seven Trumpets
The first of the three autumn feasts of Israel is the Feast of Trumpets. The purpose of this feast is to warn everyone of the approaching Day of Atonement, the most solemn day in the Jewish Calendar. The Feast of Trumpets is on the first day of the seventh month, the month of Tishri. The trumpet sounds every day from the first of Tishri to the 10th, which is the Day of Atonement:
Lev 23:24 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, shall ye have a sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, an holy convocation.
25 Ye shall do no servile work therein: but ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD.
Even on the Day of Atonement, the trumpet is blown for the 10th and last time, telling the people that this solemn day has arrived.
The blowing of the trumpet for 10 days is a type of the Seven Trumpets of Revelation. Adventists have, and still are interpreting the Seven Trumpets to be great battles in Europe during the Middle Ages. Our pioneers had to find fulfillment for the Seven Trumpets prior to 1844, since they believed Christ would come in 1844. The first Trumpet represented the Roman Church neutralising the Arian tribes beginning in 400 AD. However, since Jesus did not come in 1844, there could be a different meaning to the Seven Trumpets, especially since the antitype must have them warn of coming judgement. One can hardly look at events 1600 years ago as warnings of coming judgement.
Science has become very aware of the threat of stray asteroids that can impact the Earth. Hot off the press is the possibility of asteroid 2024 YR4 impacting the Earth in December 2032. It is very likely that an asteroid impact caused the flood more than 4000 years ago. Revelation 8 could be referring to natural disasters from space in the first 3 Trumpets.
The Trumpets are warning disasters where God is making us aware of Him and His coming judgement. Natural disasters in such close proximity will be improbable scientifically, thus mankind will realise that the Trumpets are warning disasters. The Trumpets are judgments meted out in smaller proportions, allowing many people to survive, and turn to God. The first four, and the sixth Trumpets all have one third as part of their narrative. This shows that God has mercy still, having these scourges diluted and only a third of the parts of the Earth being plagued by these Trumpets. However, when the Seven Last Plagues are poured out, there will be no dilution. God’s wrath will be poured out without mixture – no dilution – when they are poured out:
Rev 14:9 And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand,
10 The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:
The first six Trumpets are sounded before the Close of Probation while there is still mercy from God, in the hope that people will turn and commit to Him. The seventh Trumpet is the Close of Probation. Just like the trumpet sounded on the Day of Atonement for the last time in the type, likewise the seventh Trumpet sounds when Probation Closes.
When do the Trumpets begin? The introduction to Rev 8 is an early judgement scene where Christ approaches the Father while the saints are earnestly praying. Christ has a censer in His hand and the smoke of the censer rises before the Father mingled with the prayers of the saints. When atonement for the saints – the 144 000 – is done, Christ throws down the censer to the Earth. This not only shows that their judgement is complete, but also indicates that Christ is sharing His priesthood with them. The 144 000 will be priests during the last 3.5 years of probation. It could be seen that Christ is passing the baton to the 144 000, where they now have a turn at officiating as priests. The casting down of the censer may be experienced visually on Earth as tounges of fire falling on the heads of the 144 000, just like it fell on the followers of Christ at Pentecost. The Early Rain is therefore a type of the Latter Rain:

2 And I saw the seven angels which stood before God; and to them were given seven trumpets.
3 And another angel came and stood at the altar, having a golden censer; and there was given unto him much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne.
4 And the smoke of the incense, which came with the prayers of the saints, ascended up before God out of the angel's hand.
5 And the angel took the censer, and filled it with fire of the altar, and cast it into the earth: and there were voices, and thunderings, and lightnings, and an earthquake.
6 And the seven angels which had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound.
Are you praying the prayer of the saints? Are you committing your sinfulness and your sins to God? If you are, He could be numbering you as one of His 144 000 saints. If He does, Christ will share His priesthood with you when the Latter Rain is poured out. May God bless you as you commit yourself to Him every day.
