*Quiet Time Prayer*

*Focus of the Week: Deteriorating Conditions in our World Today* - Fear, Anxiety, and Hopelessness in Human Hearts

16 Jan. 2026

Gracious and Ever-Present God,
our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1),
I come to You carrying the heavy burdens of our age.

We live in uncertain times, where bad news arrives before dawn,
where threats feel closer than hope,
and where many hearts beat fast with fear.

Your Word foretold such days:
“People will faint from fear and foreboding
of what is coming upon the world” (Luke 21:26).
O Lord, I recognize these trembling hearts—in our communities,
in our families, and often within myself.

Forgive me, Lord, when fear becomes my compass
and anxiety my constant companion.

I forget that You are the One who said,
“Do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God” (Isaiah 41:10).

Holy Spirit, Comforter and Counselor,
breathe calm into my restless soul.
Where anxiety tightens like a knot,
loosen it with Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Phil. 4:6–7).
Where hopelessness settles like a heavy fog,
let the light of Your promises break through.

Remind me that fear does not come from You:
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear,
but of power, love, and a sound mind” (2 Tim. 1:7).
Replace panic with prayer,
dread with trust,
and despair with quiet confidence in Your care.

Compassionate Father,
I pray for those overwhelmed by anxiety and despair—
the lonely, the unemployed, the sick,
the displaced, the grieving, and the forgotten.
Some feel like Elijah under the broom tree,
exhausted and wishing to give up (1 Kings 19:4).
Meet them there, O Lord,
with gentle whispers rather than loud demands,
with nourishment for body and soul.

I pray for young people facing an uncertain future,
burdened by expectations and fears they barely understand.
I pray for parents worried about tomorrow,
for elders fearful of being left behind,
and for communities shaken by violence and loss.
Be near to the brokenhearted
and save those crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18).

I pray in the name of Jesus Christ,
who conquered fear, death, and despair,
and who reigns as our peace forever.
Amen.
