Dear Father,

In order to possess the land of Jericho, You instructed the Israelites to “march around the city once with all the armed men for six days. On the seventh day, they were to march around the city seven times. Then, at the sound of a loud shout from the people, the walls of the city would collapse.” What caught my attention is this: the closer they got to obtaining the promise, the more demanding the instruction became.

Doesn’t this illustration repeat itself over and again in our lives? Even more challenging is the fact that, unlike the Israelites, we do not always have the advantage of clear revelation to know when our obedience is complete. Sometimes we are as clueless as not knowing how many times to go around the city, or how to manage the urgency and compounded requirements that usher us into new seasons.

The effects of ignorance can be disastrous. Who knows how many goals we abandoned one day before our breakthrough? Or what business might have flourished just beyond a season of recession? One thing is worth noting: the Israelites depended on You for strategy.

While we may not know the day of our breakthrough, we can be certain of strength, sustenance, and guidance in attaining our goals when we submit to Your leading.
