The whole point of the joke was how angry people get when you tell them hell isn’t eternal torture. And your comment kinda proved the point.

But let’s deal with the real issue: You said “hell is literally eternal.” Respectfully, the Bible does not say that anywhere. What it does say is that the fire is eternal because the results are eternal. Jude 7 calls Sodom and Gomorrah an example of “eternal fire”… yet they’re not burning today. Eternal fire = eternal consequence. Not eternal consciousness.

Every text about the fate of the wicked says the same thing:
• “The soul that sinneth, it shall DIE.” (Ezekiel 18:20)
• “The wages of sin is DEATH.” (Romans 6:23)
• “They shall be ASHES under your feet.” (Malachi 4:3)
• Jesus said the wicked are burned like chaff—not preserved forever.

If the wicked live forever in torment, then they received immortality—something the Bible says ONLY the saved receive (1 Corinthians 15:53; 1 Timothy 6:16). The lost don’t get eternal life in heaven or in hell. They perish.

And about “not interpreting the Bible by yourself”:
My guy, most Christians believe in eternal torment because they’ve let someone else interpret the Bible for them. Jesus praised the Bereans because they didn’t rely on tradition—they searched the Scriptures daily (Acts 17:11).

The age of a church doesn’t make its doctrine true. The Pharisees had a very old religious system… and Jesus still told them they were teaching tradition instead of truth. The question isn’t, “How old is your denomination?” but “Does it match the Word of God?”

I’m not attacking you. I’m saying: let Scripture interpret Scripture, not culture, not medieval theology, and not denominational tradition. God isn’t a cosmic torturer. His justice is righteous, not sadistic. He destroys sin—not preserves it forever.
