Remembering the Victories God Has Given

Scripture

Joshua 12:7 (NKJV)
And these are the kings of the land whom Joshua and the children of Israel defeated on this side of the Jordan on the west from Baal Gad in the Valley of Lebanon as far as Mount Halak and the ascent to Seir which Joshua gave to the tribes of Israel as a possession according to their divisions

Do Not Forget What God Has Already Done

Joshua chapter 12 is a record of victories. It lists the kings defeated under Moses east of the Jordan and those defeated under Joshua west of the Jordan. At first glance, it may seem like a simple historical list, but it serves a powerful spiritual purpose. God intentionally preserved a written record of every victory He gave His people.

Each name represents a battle fought, a fear faced, and a promise fulfilled. None of these victories were accidental or achieved by human strength alone. They were the result of God’s faithfulness and Israel’s obedience. This chapter reminds the people that the land they now possess came through God’s power working over time.

For believers today, Joshua 12 teaches the importance of remembering. When we forget past victories, we weaken present faith. When we remember what God has already done, confidence rises for what lies ahead. God’s past faithfulness becomes fuel for future trust.

God does not want His people to rush past victories without reflection. Remembering strengthens gratitude, builds faith, and anchors our confidence in Him rather than ourselves.

Reflection Questions

1. Do I regularly remember and thank God for past victories in my life

2. Have I minimized what God has done instead of honoring Him for it

3. How can remembering God’s faithfulness strengthen my faith today

Prayer

Lord God, thank You for every victory You have given me. Help me to remember Your faithfulness and to give You glory for what You have done. Strengthen my faith by reminding me that You are the same God who has led me before and will lead me again. In Jesus name, Amen.
