ARE WE GOD’S MESSENGERS IN THESE LAST DAYS?
Scripture answers with solemn clarity.
“Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober” (1 Thessalonians 5:5–6).
These words are not mere poetry, they are a call to spiritual alertness in an hour when eternity presses close upon time. God’s people are not left to stumble in darkness. We have been entrusted with light, and with that light comes responsibility: to watch, to discern, and to remain anchored in truth while the world drifts into confusion.
The Spirit of Prophecy gives a sobering warning. Ellen G. White declares that a storm is coming, one that will test every soul and reveal the true quality of each person’s faith. In that hour, only those firmly rooted in Christ will stand. Any faith that is shallow, borrowed, or compromised will be swept away by subtle and deceptive error. This is no time for spiritual drowsiness. It is a time for deep, living connection with Jesus.
Those who will stand faithful in that evil day, serving God according to conscience rather than convenience, will need more than enthusiasm. They will need courage, steadfastness, and an intimate knowledge of God and His Word. The days ahead will strip away false securities, until nothing remains to cling to except Christ Himself. And yet, that is enough. When every other hand must be released, we may safely place our hand in the hand of Jesus, trusting Him to guide us through darkness and peril.
The test, we are told, is nearer than many suppose. Step by step, those who have yielded to the spirit of the world, its demands, customs, and compromises, will find it increasingly easy to submit to earthly powers rather than remain loyal to God. Even now, families who once rejoiced in present truth are losing their faith, choosing ease over endurance, conformity over conviction.
Against this backdrop, Christ’s warning rings with urgency:
“Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man” (Luke 21:36).
To watch is to live awake to prophecy. To pray is to remain dependent on divine strength. The question is not merely are we in the last days? The signs answer that plainly. The deeper question is this: Are we awake, watching, and holding fast to Christ, so that when the storm breaks, we will be found standing in the light?
