A classic scripture verse that works based religious people use to defend their rejection of eternal security is Matthew 24: 13. Taking scriptures out of context to support a doctrine is common practice with religious folk. If you read the whole chapter of Matthew 24 you will find that Jesus is talking about trials and tribulations and in particular end time tribulation. Jesus said if you endure tribulations to the end of those tribulations you will be saved from those tribulations. Jesus is not talking about one's eternal salvation. Keep in mind his audience. Jacob's trouble will be a time of great tribulation. At the end of that tribulation Yeshua Hamachiac will return to set up his kingdom on this earth. The whole premise of this chapter is about tribulation and in particular end time tribulation. There are many such twisting of scripture used by religious folk to promote their doctrinal errors.
